Thanks for the article...but I think the writer is a twit....not the most complimentary article, but those who can do...those who can't try to write about it.

It's not too bad, just criticizes Brett's voice a bit but to be fair he was sick so he was working double time just to get those songs out best he could. I've seen far worse reviews, there's one from the Norfolk show where the reviewer praises Ray and Robby but doesn't like Brett because he doesn't impersonate Jim as well as Ian. Hence why I didn't bother to post that. Critics seem so obligated to write something negative

i think that part of that critics disapointment is that he went to see the doors and the doors werent there. it's 2 origional members with 3 other guys. it's not going to sound exactly the same as it did 40 years ago!

I disagree.
I was at the NorVa show and I hate to even say this but it's my honest humble opinion...

I've seen two previous shows with Ian... never knew what to expect without John playing and having a new drummer (Ty) and especially a singer I'd never seen before (Ian), along with a bass player (Angelo).... and I was totally blown away with those two shows. They were done at a different venue... more of an outside by the boats docking atmosphere... it was nice and all but when they played together... it just clicked!! I couldn't stop myself from dancing the whole time because they rocked.

So here I go to see them perform with this once again new singer (Brett) and I had a very open mind... I mean Ray and Robby can certainly rock on stage while together in front of a crowd... but this night something was missing. Ray hardly even smiled, which is something I'd seen him do at previous concerts. They played the old Doors songs... and Brett sang... his voice was fine.... but to me it just seemed as though they didn't have it coming together like it should have been. I mean Ray and Robby were jammin' along with Ty, who btw is an awesome drummer and never let up the whole show... and Phil Chen was rockin' as well... and Brett was on stage singing the songs.... and no he wasn't like Jim or Ian... he was himself... but once again it's my opinion that he just didn't click with the rest of the band... not sure if it was his stage presence or what... he was really trying and he could knock out the lyrics but it just didn't send me dancing in the audience like I thought it would. (not to mention the spitting on the stage was a bit of a turn off as well).

Just my thoughts on what I saw and felt....

Well, like I said above...
I've seen Ray an Robby rock the stage with a crowed audience... and it's not that Ian was being a Jimitator or anything... but there was something special happening when they played together... something that was missing when I saw them play with Brett.

hey everyone,
Sorry to hear the somewhat sour review of Bretts performance at the Nokia. I know he was sick. The show i saw in St Louis was great and Brett sounded great. You know 6 years ago when i first heard Ray/Robby were going out on the road it didnt really matter who would be singing Jim lyrics. I was just thrilled to see 2 members of the best band ever perform live, Hell to this day i'd still just be as happy to attend a show only hearing Ray/Robby jam by themselves. Then I found out Ian Astbury from another of my favorite bands would be taking the mic. Ian on vocals perhaps "sweetened" the deal but again I still wouldve attended all the shows with no vocals or Ray on vocals. I feel too much attention has been given to the whole "ian/brett" drama, isnt it just WONDERFUL that we all still have the chance to see Ray and Robby jam on some of the best songs ever written? I too was a lil sour when Ian left the mix . Then I remembered how I felt when i first heard of ray/robby playing the songs live again and came to the realization that ROTS is a celebration of The Doors music and to get caught up in any Ian/Brett drama would be missing the point. No one will ever come close to filling those shoes of the Late Great Jim Morrison, Ian or Brett. Ray and Robby only wanted someone to give a voice to Jim lyrics. I think Ian did a great job and Brett is doing as well. Weather it be Ian,Brett, Eddie Vedder, Scott Weiland or whoever else was considered it doesnt change the fact its not Jim Morrison. It is what it is,,,,,not The Doors but only 2 members of The Doors surrounded by some good company out there playing The Doors songs. I'll take what i can get and be thankful for it. I've enjoyed every min of it all and will only hope for more chances to see the guys live. Now I do understand everyone is intitled to have a opinion about Ian/Brett but at this point i see no good its serving to still be a concern. Ian is gone, Brett is here and who knows if there will be other vocalist to step in if ROTS are to continue for a few more years. It seems to me at this point that it may be a rotating door??? Which brings be back to the important thing, Ray/Robby playing the songs live.
One last thing I'll say is at this point i'd truly like to see John get on board. I'd love to see Ray/Robby/John play live, with vocals and with who???? Who cares???? Ray/Robby/John!!!! enough said.

Thats exactly what I think. I went to the 2 concerts I went to ( not old enough to go all the time i want, my dad wouldnt let me see them to far away) But the main reason I went to see them is to see robby play some guitar, ray some organ, and hear some great doors tunes with a couple of living legends. And Im grateful to have seen robby and ray , and we all should be grateful that they are touring, adn we had the chances to see 2 of the best musicians alive.

Hi M-B!!! Missed you!

I am going next weekend and I'm going to try and maintain the open mind that I took to New York & New Jersey in 2003 when I first saw them. But I'm concerned that as good as Brett might be, I'm concerned it won't be as good/the same atmosphere etc. And I know nothing is ever the same twice - even with Ian they evolved and grew. But I saw a tired looking Ray in Manchester in January and to hear of him at another show, in the States this time, not smiling, not sounded like he was energised, I dunno. It concerns me. Is this a bridge too far? Only time will tell, I suppose.

I'm not trying to be the guy throwing a downer on everything. It's just I've seen so much beauty from 2003-Jan 2007, and I wonder, can anything ever repeat it? But that's what I said about them in 2003 - you know, The Doors man, living legends, can they match that legend with reality etc. etc. They proved me wrong once and I hope they do it again, but I'm so much more nervous now than I was in 2003. But that's because I've come to love this band so so much.

Can I just add - for Christ sakes, we've all said it for years now - sort out the bloody advertising for this band!!! There has been NOTHING this time around in the British newspapers! Nothing. It's unbelievable.

well Brett rocked the house in NYC despite illness and Ray seems to be in the best spirits in years

PK,,,
Brother, you'll enjoy the show. Yeah i'd say you'll find the "brett not Ian" experience to be different but you'll enjoy the show just the same.

i think ian and brett are both great
Jimbo
they're both great, and both different from each other. Ian's similarities to Jim were cool and made for great shows but it's nice seeing a relatively different interpretation of the music as well. S'all good baby

S'ALL GOOD BABY,,,,,thats right JIMBO! tell it like it is baby.........ha ha
I'd say its time for some "info" to get us state side fans "buzzed" again,,,,how about some tour news for later this summer/fall??? I've may have some info like that soon...i'll keep ya posted.

I say we all throw in a few bucks,,,hire the band to play a private gig, perhaps somewhere mid america, big ROTS fan campout with a late night "howl at the moon" show. ha ha,,,its cool to dream right?

Dance On Fire
