I think both Nite City LPs should see a CD release. I have a few live Nite City performances. I think it would be awesome if some of those were considered for CD release as well.

If this is an actual "2006 release" (like this seller on Ebay seems to hint at), as opposed to a bootleg or home-made copy, then why isn't this CD listed anywhere else (that I've been looking at) ?

Anyone found this CD in sale anywhere else ?

I just got the cd today. I could never find it on any site. Its put out by STILL SHAKIN RECORDS and its not a copy. Its been to long since Ive heard this music. hope that helps

golden days Ray sings America and The Dreamer. Instrumentals Barcelona. Nite city album In the Pyramid. Also found this cd in a site called GEMM. IT was more expensive than ebay and sellers feedback wasnt great. Ordered THE GOLDEN SCARAB from another seller in GEMM. Its put out by MERCURY and has 3 tracks from rock and roll on it. the one there offering on other sites is made by LEMON and I read its a bootleg. The one from MERCURY is kinda hard to find, but I found it at GEMM. Awhile back I bought The BUTTS BAND cd on ebay by the other 2 members of the DOORS. It came out when RAY was doing his solo albums. Some good songs on it. Used to see RAY in a club called The Bottom Line in N.Y. in the 70s and then one night he showed up with NITE CITY

I just got mine, I mean right this minute (from a collegue at work via the ebay posting mentionned here earlier) and I can't wait to rush home and play it !

Obviously, I'll also listen (with a very open-ear !) to the songs sung by Paul Warren, but the ones by Ray and the instrumentals are the ones that I was, and still am, most looking forward to hearing !

Now, all that remains to be answered... do I now also buy Ray's 1990's/2000's spoken-waord duet albums too ?

I'm quite open to the idea... come one, someone here "sell" me the idea of getting those !

The two Nite City albums got me so much "back into Ray" that I pulled out and played a lot of "Golden Scarab", "The whole thing started with rock and roll...", as well as "Full Circle" and "Other Voices"...

Man, it's such a crying shame that Ray stopped doing such albums, with or without Robbie and John !

Fine, he wanted to go more into doing musical backing for people doing readings, and all the more power to him if that's what he wanted to do... but, to me, it's a waste of talent, as Ray could write some VERY good lyrics (as well as doing the instrumental stuff) !

And, as a singer... O.K., Ray doesn't have a Roy-Orbison-like voice... but then again, how many so called "singers" do ?

He sounded just fine ("Ships W/Sails" leaps to mind), and even much better then some well-known "alleged" singers !

Well I really enjoy Ray's keyboard playing to the poetry of Michael McClure and Darryl Read. Would love to see 'em perform live some day.. I just got 'Bleeding Paradise' in the mail, looking forward to hear it. Nothing like hearing a new Ray Manzarek keyboard recording on a summer day..

I just finished listening to my new favorite CD and thought I'd share the recipe for anyone that has these songs and might want to make a '70's Ray compilation. I refrained from including too much off of the Mercury Scarab release as it's perfect as it is:

Depends what you mean by "expert"...

I was able to get myself a copy of the 2006 CD issue a few months ago (and have been playing the daylights out of it since) and I also have (and love !) the two songs that Paul & Georgia Ferrara recoded with thyem in 1976...

i mean with expert someone who knows about alt takes, outtakes, former members of the band, stuff like that

come on ray, get on thems CD re-releases of your solo works just after "the whole thing started"....

I recieved the CD of both Nite City albums in the post this morning, brand new copy from a ebay seller in Germany, I had the 2nd album on vinyl but not the first, also got The Butts Band 2 on 1 release on CD from another seller, again I had both albums on vinyl which I brought in a second hand store a few years ago..

1977 and 1978

NITE CITY album number one was released on FEB 28 1977 or was it 76? but pretty sure about that as i moved to l.a. in jan of 76 to play drums with NITE CITY and i can't see how we would have finshed in 8 week the whole Album

then again i ray was flying me out every weekend from oct -dec 1975 for rehearasals so maybe it is 1976

this does almost make sense to me now

i think we gigged around and secured the record deal with mercury then made the album. i also remember bob segar offering me a gig on the 28th of feb and i had just gotten to calif ....so maybe it was 76.
