Hi, finally recieved The Soft Parade. rolleyes.gif

It wasn't as bad as I had come to expect.

In fact my husband has said that the song the Soft Parade is becoming one of his favourite Doors songs.

But I must admit I've wiped Wild child from my MP3 player as I do tend to skip it.

I was surprised also how each song is atributed to the pens of Robby of Jim, don't really like that. sad.gif

Do any board members have any oppinions about this album?

It's hard to say anything on this. I would say its unconventional and an original idea, but then so was all The Doors music. It was a very interesting and original experiment, that perhaps didn't have quite the result that they wanted, but is still a great album. Anyone who doesn't like it because of the added instruments has a rather limited mind.

I love it when instruments are put into music that they are not normally used in. I'm still waiting to hear a sitar in rock rolleyes.gif

There was a reason that the songs are attributed to Robby or Jim. In Tell All The People, Jim didn't want to sing the line "Can't you see me growing, get your guns", so they had the idea to attribute the songs separately so that everyone would know Robby wrote that song. I guess they just did the same to the others to be consistent.

Anyhow, it's a great album, a very original idea on their part cool.gif

i'm the type that d/ls the album before buying the album to see if i like it or not and soft i never bought i don't like it, alot reviews bill this being alot of people's least favorite.

The albums good but certainly not great. Wild Child and The Soft Parade are the two songs that stand out most to me. While the others are fine enough songs, the album pales in comparison to the other five albums the Doors had with Morrison

yeah i just thought it was too slow

It stands the test of time for me. I'm a big fan of Runnin' Blue, not sure if I've ever been able to figure out why...

The Soft Parade is ok, but it's not my most loved Doors album.

Runnin' Blue in one of my favourite songs on the album for some reason too. My other favourites are 'Tell All The People' I think its a great sing along song, 'Wishful, Sinful' and of course 'The Soft Parade'.

I really hope that someday we get to hear a "naked" version of that album. In my opinion, the performances of the Soft Parade songs on the 1969 TV show Critique (without any strings) are as good, if not better, than the album cuts. The band would have to go back into the studio and add some instrumentation though since there would be some musical holes to be filled once the strings and brass were removed. Hopefully they will get to it one day. Critique is incredible musically, and contains a bass-heavy version of Alabama Song that blows me away every time.

Same here. I play the DVD and Play along with Wishful Sinful, Alabama Song and Back Door Man all the time. I love the Critique show.
I'd be nice if they could do that to that album. I love theSoft Parade album. I understand it's a departure from theDoors usual stuff, but I love it. I wish you could hear Ray on the studio cut of WIshful Sinful though. I can't hear him at all.

Talk about bringing an old thread back from the dead...geez.
I would also like to hear some of these songs stripped down. I tend to enjoy the version of "Touch Me" from the Live in America CD (If I recall correctly it is from a perfomance at The Forum in LA). A bit raw, Robbie rips guitar licks where the sax does on the SP album. I could see them slowing a few of those songs down, bluesin' 'em up, almost in the style of the LA Woman album. Hmmmm....
