Check out this article. I'm still waiting on verification on this from Ray before I put it on the official site, but it sounds like it's going to happen. Pretty cool.

Sounds like a wonderful evening...I miss living in S.F. the art and artists that are found in that beautiful city are just fabulous. Thanks Dave, I spent a few minutes back there if only in my mind it was a delightful trip.
Peace,

Agreed. The big midwestern drawback is the complete lack or appreciation of the arts. (Except for maybe Chicago, you can find a little)

This is a late post-but, I just joined the board! I had the opportunity to see Ray and Michael perform at the Rock Hall in Cleveland in 1996. They appeared there for 2 nights. One night was a lecture with some spoken word and the second night was spoken word performance. If you get to attend tonights performance you are in for a real treat!

Just wanted to post a brief review of the show on Saturday- It was sold out, about 150-160 people in attendance. Ray was playing a black baby grand piano, and McClure read at a podium, moved around a bit, but not much. The flutist was impressive, and the music leaned towards bluesy (I had never heard the blues played on flute before). The second song was Eagle in a Whirlpool. For an encore they did Riders on the Storm. Ray engaged the audience by asking a couple of questions, and discussed playing at the Fillmore with Riders and two stage plays him and Dorothy had seen recently (she was in attendance also). Overall it was a dynamic performance. Rays playing soared beautifully through the room, and McClures words were powerful and left a strong impression on me. If any of you get to see them don't pass it up.

And I forgot to mention, I'm pretty sure the performance was being recorded, so a cd of the show may turn up sometime.

If that CD is made available to purchase I'll have to do so for Eagle in the Whirpool alone

Here is a link to a cool McClure article.
Click MeHere is the text relating to Ray:
"And of all the Beat poets, the most musical must be Michael McClure. As early as 1956, he was writing lines inspired by the asymmetrical phrases of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk and the orderly passions of Joseph Haydn. A decade later he plunged into electronic opera with synth pioneer Morton Subotnick; just last week he was working on new songs with former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. And even when he’s not conspiring with musicians, he’s still a sonic innovator, as I find out when I reach him at his Oakland, California, home."

Thanks for the article Dave that is cool, and apparantly him and Ray continue to work on songs together. I'd say thats a good combination based on the reactions of EITW

For that one, Michael gave Ray the lyrics and Ray/Riders made the song out of it. Michael had never heard it played until he heard it live. I guess he liked it since they played it together in S.F!
