Ray Manzarek and all the four Doors have been known as admirers of the film conductor Fritz Lang. His main work and one of the cultural highlights in cinematic art at all is the monumental science fiction movie "Metropolis", first released in 1927. Unfortunately, this movie had been cut roughly and therefore was only conserved in an incomplete version. All the cut scenes had been destroyed, so there seemed to be no chance to ever see the film in full length.
By great chance, one forgotten copy of the original version in full length has now been found somewhere in a movie archive in Argentina. The complete movie inlusive the especially composed film music has now been reconstructed for the first time since the 20ies of the last century, and maybe Ray will see it as a very special birthday gift by chance that the first release of this reconstructed original will just take place on february 12th during two great cineastic feasts in Berlin and Frankfurt.
