Light My Fire (Ray on whistle and bell(?))
* After ‘Backdoor Man’ was finished. Ray restarted it in the instrumental section before the second verse (during Robby’s solo) so they could segue directly in ‘Five to One’.
** This sequence was probably developed with/for the Symphony show. At the symphony show they played the ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ riff once before the “It’s getting near dawn” vocal ending. The first ending they played the riff a couple times and Brett sang the whole first line “It’s getting...eyes”. Ray then wanted to try it again and they played this sequence (the ending of ‘The Changeling’ > ‘SOYL’) either 2 or 3 times but none of those times did they play the ‘SOYL’ riff twice and Brett only sang the first part of the line.
*** Halfway through ‘Horse Latitudes’ Ray stopped the band and said they needed to make noises like the symphony did. Ray then sped-read the first half or so of ‘HL’ before the band started going wild as they finished.
**** At the beginning, Ray asked for thunder and for the lights to be turned down low. He then asked everyone imagine the dead-indians-on-the-highway story and went on to describe it before playing ‘ROTS’.
Printed setlist showed no ‘Blue Sunday’. It had ‘LA Woman’ (not played) listed after ‘Touch Me’. ‘ROTS’ was listed as the first encore while ‘The Crystal Ship’ (not played) ‘LMF’ and ‘Roadhouse Blues’ (not played) were listed as part of the second encore. As with the previous night, the band did not leave the stage and I don’t recall an obvious mention of an encore. I think it would also be accurate to call ‘ROTS’ and ‘LMF’ the encores though. Again, just preference.
Ray was in high spirits tonight. I love the jamminess of it all. Reprises galore! Even without counting the reprises - but including ‘Horse Latitudes’ and the Flamenco guitar solo as separate songs - this was a 20 song show! Obviously always wanting more and more and more songs, but I can’t honestly have any complaints after a show like this. Total show time was a little over 2 hours.
20 Song Show!!!
Lucky you
