I can't overstate the meaning of the Doors music to me. One of the other benefits of The Doors that I sometimes forget about is the other music I've been exposed to via The Doors. Whether it's "backwards" toward Dixon, Hooker, or The Blues Project - or forward to The Cult, Fuel, etc. - I typically find that I enjoy the music that I'm taken to.
Seeing as how there aren't a huge number of Doors related shows to get excited about (and discuss) all the time...I thought I would post this at the risk of being a little off topic.
I have developed an addiction to setlists and have made a habit of writing reviews (some of which I've posted here). In a twist of fate perhaps, within 5 weeks or so I'll have a chance to see Ian with The Cult, Brett with Re-Fueled, and Brett with M/K. This may not be that special to someone in LA, but for Phoenix it's pretty good. Anyways if anyone has interest in killing time or is interested in my occasionally decent reviews you can come check recent Cult and Re-Fueled (their first show) reviews at
http://www.myspace.com/lizzzzardkingOtherwise looking forward to the upcoming M/K shows (esp. w/ the symphony).
I too caught the cult at the celebrity theater (Pheonix/tee-shirt).
Thought the boys were in top form musically, but did not care for the overload
on the visuals per each song...a bit overdone. I thought a visual here & visual there
strategically placed throught out the show would have been more effective creatively.
I can live w/out the scenes of skyscrapers (concret jungle), heads being shaved, random
messages, etc. TOO MUCH, TOO FAST, technology overload.
Though appreciated the homage the cult is paying to Native Americans, esp.
sister moon/brother wolf. Felt a message being conveyed during this song.
Keep in mind this is my opinion, but I prefer to experience artists (i.e., The Doors & Blues musicians...)
in their pure/simplistic/honest state of performance. I can live without all the sparkle & razzle/dazzle of hollywood/new york.
Everyone wants something sacred & mine in a nutshell is to experience the essence of souls.
This is deep...
"Thank God I'm a country" girl (John Denver) & spend only limited time in the city.
Couldn't hear a word I. A. was saying in the mic when he was engaging the
audience, but then again I was seated in the $38.00 seats, maybe we got jipped on the sound
in our section, one never knows? The powers that be...
See ya at the phoenix & la shows.
Peace,
Spirit/Light
