- Dear Nister, would you like to talk about "An American Pastoral"?

- Yes smile.gif .

- What does it mean then?

- In a way it's like a sign or projection of Jim's own reality in the future. A sort of Karmapa letter

- The Karmapa? O my God! laugh.gif Please explain

- HWY is an experiencing metaphor. It is about conscience, mind and morals. It is about the person's mental response to a bad action and the fact that only this person knows about it; a terrible secret that only you know. The heart is out, the whole game is in your brain. The challenge is totally in the head, you live your feelings according to your head and then you kill your head according to your feelings. The only one who knows about this bad action is you - that's where the confront is.

- I see.

- Imagine that you are in a vast desert area where nobody is around but you and another person. If by some reason you kill that person you will only have to deal with your own mind. There is nothing or nobody else to whom you'll have to justify or explain, the focus is you. When the killer is driving and the radio is playing, you are not invited to feel, in silence, you are invited to think. The mind is a monkey and so is the camera while it's filming. Like I said it's all in the brain, in the head. And so in the end he looks for drugs, to keep feeding his head. His drugs are alcohol, lsd and sex - those are the things that make the head numb, not the heart. The movie is not about the heart, it is about the brain. Anything you use as a drug brings head and as long as you stay in the head what matters is your own morals; your own jugdment, your morality. Morality has nothing to do with the heart, it is in the brain.

- But in the movie we aren't sure if the character kills anyone.

- Exactly. You know it because you hear a phone call. It is not your knowledge but somebody else's. Then the whole thing takes you to a private place. The place inside you. It is there where all things happen. You listen to the radio and you hear the noise from the streets and immediately you start wondering. It's the turmoil of thought, of the head not emotion ("it's no big deal" the mind makes its reasoning). In a way that's what's happening here, you hear someone saying he was someone else and that is my phone call to you. Just like in the movie you know it because you hear someone saying it. "Hey listen man I really got a problem. I don't know how to tell you ha... I killed someone. I killed Jim Morrison."
