it was "storytellers." pretty cool. i saw PJ with tom petty at summerfest in milwaukee last month. one of the absolute greatest shows i've ever seen. mind-blowing.

I love Pearl Jam, and I'm glad to see them doing well! I think it's great how some of the more "mature" bands are making comebacks (not that they've all really gone anywhere, just nice to see them back in the public eye and doing live shows)- and how the young kids today love them like they are something new.
A student of mine went to see Journey and Def Lepard a few weeks ago. It's awesome to see how the older and not so old bands have such an impact on the younger kids. Kinda like the Doors do. Which in a round about way speaks of the importance of Riders on the Storm. Young kids can only buy so many albums, ya know? There's nothing like a live performance!

jampol, in response to a question regarding whether or not there is/will be any positive news about it airing:

"I have no idea, as it was never a management issue, but rather a synch licensing issue between the Estates, Densmore and ROTS - but I believe this is a dead issue long since past."

The Estates and John either give permission or they don't, the appeal wouldn't stop anything.

Air the damn show. I'm tired of seeing the Heart and Elvis Costello episodes!

I can't blame John though. I'd feel bummed out if I opted out of a kick ass band that over a million people have enjoyed all over the world.

Just asking because I'm not sure - but why not? Wouldn't the appeal change the ruling and allow them to play as some group with the word "The Doors" in the title?? My understanding of this is that anyone can play Doors songs - just this group couldn't use "The Doors" in their title. So, if that's overturned, wouldn't it then be acceptable??

"Allow" them how? Live or recorded? Just wondering why I could perform LMF live, but they can't? Or is it because it was "recorded"??

Don't know if you've heard of them (because I hadn't until this mess came along); there's something called a 'sync licence' which licenses musicians or in this case VH1 to synchronise the sound and the image of a band performing. VH1 needs a sync licence from The Doors as the songs in question are The Doors' songs. The Doors of course = Jim, Ray, Robby John. John will not grant his authorisation for a sync licence, because Ray and Robby did a terrible thing. After having founded The Doors, played in The Doors, written and produced The Doors' music, they decided to use the words 'The Doors' to advertise a concert where they played these songs they helped to create, write, choreograph and perform back in the 60's and 70's. Those irresponsible bastards! biggrin.gif

Until John provides his authorisation, then no movement on the VH1 show, as well as a DVD from an apparently amazing concert in Argentina, again because the band name, 'The Doors of the 21st Century,' which is what the band were called at the time, had the words 'The Doors' in it.

Any set of musicans can use the words 'The Doors' in their band name if they so decide. Except two. Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, because they were actually part of The Doors. It's sick!

John Densmore, whose integrity I don't doubt, has nonetheless managed to do the unbelievable - he has stopped live music from being heard. The worst possible outcome from misguided liberal roots - fascism. Incidental, accidental fascism. But still fascism.

PK cool.gif

Hope that helps Mary-Beth - it pisses me off just to write it all down again too! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad people are still asking, but it drives me nuts - this crazy situation. The Doors will never know what it is like NOT to be persecuted. But now it's Doors persecuting Doors. Sickening.
