Here's a bit of info from Vanila Fudge drummer Carmen Appice, taken from a March 6th interview...

Rock N Roll Universe : You recently played with Vanilla Fudge for a tribute to The Doors, which is supposed to be aired on VH1 Classics ‘Decades Live’ show. That also features Pat Travers and The Doors Of The 21st Century, or DC 21. What was that like, and when is that scheduled to be aired?

Carmine Appice : Well, there’s a problem going on with that show. As you know, John Densmore is suing the Doors Of The 21st Century, and he won a judgement in the courts, when we were on tour in the middle of the Canadian tour, they wanted the band (The Doors) to stop touring. Which was really a drag because it was a three band Canadian tour and all three would have to stop touring. It effected many people working on and for the tour. Somehow we got through the whole tour thanks to our manager, Tom. The ‘Decades’ thing, is a tribute to The Doors, Densmore won’t sign off on the songs. So, it’s sort of in limbo, but I heard something that it might be out in April. But I had taken my own video camera, and I filmed some stuff. What an incredible show. We went up and played “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” and “She’s Not There.” Plus we played “Love Her Madly,” which we totally changed to a Vanilla Fudge type of ballad. Really soulful and cool. The audience was going absolutely beserko. There were a couple of weird things. Mark Stein said he remembered playing the song on the SAME SHOW with the Doors at The Seattle Pop Festival, where Jim Morrison was five feet away, and he watched him play it. He said, “Maybe if we thought hard enough, we could get Jim’s spirit in the room.” When we started playing “Hanging On,” a bolt of lightning hit the building and knocked out the electricity. That was kind of weird. Then, it happened again, when we tried to redo it.

Well with all this new controversy about no more US tour dates, it would be nice to see something from a live show.

i was jsut watching the HEART episode of decades rock live. it had jerry cantrell, dava navarro, and others. but man o man the production of the whole thing looked absolutely fantastic. awesome stage with cool lighting and displays. also, there were little interview dealies between songs with heart and the other performers...

and all i could see was IAN, ROBBY, RAY, TY, and PHIL up there with a bunch of admirers giving a great performance with cool interviews throughout and the whole controversy just re-angered (is that a word?) ALL OVER AGAIN.

we WILL see this one day, the finished product. if not on TV, then on DVD or elsewhere. i know it. somehting that looks that good ALWAYS makes it to the fans eventually. it's karma.

I caught the Heart one too. I was waiting for Cantrell to get on stage, but I just couldn't sit through that much Heart so I turned it off.

The production values were really bitchin and I was doing the same thing you were doing- just picturing the Doors on the stage.

Hope the Doors show gets out someday

I video'd much of this show on my camera phone, unfortunately that phone crashed and all was lost a few months back, what an incredible time it was. Met some cool people there! laugh.gif Such a bummer it never aired.

sad.gif too bad your phone crashed (maybe it's good for you though...you might have gotten sued for capturing one of "The Best Concerts Ever" rolleyes.gif ) I was there also at that concert...it was a once in a lifetime expierence.
The production and sound was awesome...one can only hope that one of these days it will air.
Peace,

cantrell was good, but the performance of 'rooster' sounded weird with the chick from heart barely squeezing out a few notes here and there, while mainly standing around awkwardly while the guys took care of the main vocals.

I wasn't impressed with the new singer for Chains. It seemed a little forced and out of place. I saw Cantrell a few years back in Pittsburgh shortly after Layne died and he had a guy who really seemed to fit their sound without imitating Layne. Guess they can't all have an Ian Astubury~ cool.gif

Speaking of VH1, did anyone catch the Pearl Jam - I think it was "Behind the Music"?
