FREE SPEECH IS DEAD!
At the State of the Union speech last night, Cindy Sheehan was arrested for wearing a t-shirt with a slogan on it.

Before the president arrived, Cindy took her seat at the invitation of California Rep. Lynn Woolsey, and removed her jacket. Her t-shirt read "2,242 Dead".

The President has not allowed any dissent at his speeches. Hundreds have been arrested for similar reasons all along the President's speech route in the last five years.

Mr Bush talked about the "Ideology of terror and death ." Was he looking in a mirror? That is what he is bringing on Iraq.

Mr Bush talked about taking Iraq from a totalitarian dictatorship through a series of steps to a constitution and free elections. He has taken the US through the same steps in the opposite direction.

this is coming from a card-carrrying college Democrat who is so far to the left, i put castro to shame...BUT there is a specific rule that prohibits demonstrations or protests of a any kind in the chambers of congress and she was warned...i hate the spirit of that law, but i understand the letter of it.

again, i am 110% against the warmonger in our white house, but this specific event actually has very realistic grounds in law...as far as i can tell. cindy sheehan deserves to be honored for her contributions for her activism, but this was too obivous - come on

but hey - arent these topics for the off-topic severed garden?

Sorry Matt! I misunderstood your "man" man! wink.gif tongue.gif

No biggie anyway, I just thought that you thought you were talking to a guy! Darn problems with understanding when we type versus converse face to face.

It's one of my biggest pet peeves, actually. When guys talk to women and say, "man." It is so chauvanistic, it drives me crazy. It is one of those things from the 60's that I am actually against. It's offensive. Just reverse it: I would love to see guys start calling each other "woman," all the time, and not joking either. But to call each other that as if it were cool.

That said, I wasn't bothered by it much because I know it isn't meant in that way. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but I figured, I might as well be honest. I also hate it when my girlfriends come over and say, "whadda you guys want to do?" I always say, "well, I don't know what YOU GUYS are gonna do, but this girl is going to go shopping," My friends learn fast around me, lol. Ok, nuff about that, no harm done, no big deal, I know you didn't mean it that way. It's one of those things that people say and never give any thought to the meaning, or where it came from. (For the record, I also give people hell when they say "bless you" after I sneeze. I don't have a demon inside me and I don't need to be blessed. I always tell them, "just ask if I am ok, ok?!!" rolleyes.gif

Thanks! I really appreciate that. wink.gif
Anyways, what I wanted to ask, in light of my initial post and my being a green little newbie around here, is why was there some kind of split between this severed garden and this website? Or was there? I feel very confused, like I came in on the tail end of a big storm and am left to view the desolation. What happened? unsure.gif

What is the severed garden?

Blue bus, as Jimbo said, the Severed Garden is a 'Doors Board' but it is off topic--off the topic of the Doors. The Forums include: Poetry, Literary, Politics, Chit Chat, Spiritual Growth, Movies, Recipes, Other Bands and Singers, Musicians Corner, Photos etc.

You have to register and become a member of the Severed Garden to read and to post on the board. To register, see post #4 in this thread and click on the link.
