I'm a little confused... everybody is saying NOHGOA is a great book, but a few months ago, everybody was calling it "Nothing Here But a Bunch Of Lies" unsure.gif

Mine was NOHGOA. As far as all the books being filled with "half truths" - well I just think that adds to the Doors mystique. Keeps us searching for more. wink.gif

It was John's. The only book about The Doors that I could find at the library and it is still the only one there. I must have been 18.
I didnt want to consume any, being a poor student and knowing that there were other books that I really wanted. It left me to wait till was about 21 till I got some books about the band and that is when I bought, break on through.

I'll be honest with the years, the interest of reading books about the doors got mellow. I have Rays book but Ive not exactly read it from first page to the last. I have Break on through, NOHGOA, the same here. I think I waited too long in between. I should have used that specific time when I was 18. I read Johns book in one day, I didnt want to put it down.

I'll never forget seeing the "No One Here Gets Out Alive" hardback in the "New Releases" section in 1980. I bought it, ran home and read it from cover to cover three times in one weekend. I have bought and read every Doors book with the exception of "Wild Child". My favorites are "Break On Through' and Ray's bio.
Dave

I bought my first copy in 1980 as well...
It was the year I granduated and I was so excited to hear about the book.
Since then I've read Riders on the Storm and Light my fire. All good books! cool.gif

As I said awhile back....alot of the books written about the Doors and/or Jim n on the other hand he presents facts, truths, and possibilities..........so I as always encourage everybody to read all you can on Jim Morrison and the Doors and make your own logical conclusions......it's a big book.....and alot of information has already been printed in other books.....but read them...I think Jim would tell you to read them and open your mind and make your OWN conclusion.
I also would recommend reading the books that intreigued Jim Morrison.....it helps unlock some of what Jim held in his head as a universal truth from the books he read......Reading expanes the mind..........Read...Read.....Read You gotta love Jim Mossison! I know I do!
I personally think "Know One Here Gets Out Alive" is an excellent place to begin at and I also think that Olivers Stones' movie "The Doors" is a good begining..keeping in mind it is not a biography and can be at times onesided...but this movie really does introduce the novice to "The Music" not necessarily "The Man" named "Jim Morrison"
Peace,
Your Doors/Riders Sister,
Mary-Beth

I read John's first. I bought it and NOHGOA at the same time. Started NOHGOA first but then started John's and finished it first. Then I finished NOHGOA

"Jim Morrison - Dark Star" by Dylan Jones. In the German translation by Walter Hermann "Jim Morrison - Poet und Rockrebell". I didn't like it ....

Next was "No one here get's out alive", which is much better!
