I drove back to Phoenix from Vegas right after the second Doors show. I am quite tired and have a huge amount of stuff to get caught up on so no reviews for now. Eventually I will try to get some further thoughts written down about the symphony and Vegas shows. For now, here are the setlists and brief comments about specific songs.

Date- October 10, 2009 Manzarek – Krieger of the Doors, Wasted Space, Las Vegas w. Brian

- Setlist -
Carmina Burana intro
Love Me Two Times
Break on Through (with ‘Dead Cats, Dead Rats’)
Love Her Madly
When the Music’s Over
Peace Frog
Waiting for the Sun
Alabama Song
Backdoor Man* >
Five to One
Flamenco guitar solo >
Spanish Caravan
The Soft Parade
The Soft Parade reprise
Touch Me (with ‘Sex Machine’ intro)
LA Woman
People Are Strange
Light My Fire (Ray on washboard)

* Partial; played through guitar solo only

Printed setlist showed no ‘Backdoor Man’ or ‘Five to One’ but did have ‘The Changeling’ (not played). Also ‘Riders on the Storm’ was listed as first encore and then ‘LMF’ and ‘Roadhouse Blues’ were listed as the second encores. However, the band never left stage and I don’t recall any this-is-the-encore type speech. One could probably call ‘PAS’ and ‘LMF’ as encores though; I suppose it’s just preference.

Ray didn’t seem in as good of a mood as he did in Phoenix or the following night (Sunday) in Vegas (see below). Maybe he was under the weather. Perhaps this is why the longer ‘ROTS’ and ‘RB’ were left out in favor of the shorter ‘PAS’.

Date- October 11, 2009 Manzarek – Krieger of the Doors, Wasted Space, Las Vegas w. Brian, Jen, Dave, Morgan

- Setlist -
Carmina Burana intro
Love Me Two Times
Break on Through (“dope” interlude)
Love Her Madly
When the Music’s Over
Peace Frog >
Blue Sunday
Not To Touch The Earth
Waiting for the Sun
Alabama Song
Backdoor Man (complete)
Backdoor Man reprise (guitar solo)* >
Five To One (with ‘Purple Haze’ intro)
The Changeling > Sunshine of Your Love outro (complete first vocal line and two riffs)
The Changeling > Sunshine of Your Love reprise (segue and end played 2 or 3 times; “It’s getting near dawn” only vocals)**
Flamenco guitar solo >
Spanish Caravan
Moonlight Drive >
Horse Latitudes (mostly silent) > Horse Latitudes reprise (full band)***
Wild Child
Touch Me (‘Sex Machine’ intro)
Riders on the Storm (Indians on the highway vocal intro by Ray)****
Light My Fire (Ray on whistle and bell(?))

* After ‘Backdoor Man’ was finished. Ray restarted it in the instrumental section before the second verse (during Robby’s solo) so they could segue directly in ‘Five to One’.

** This sequence was probably developed with/for the Symphony show. At the symphony show they played the ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ riff once before the “It’s getting near dawn” vocal ending. The first ending they played the riff a couple times and Brett sang the whole first line “It’s getting...eyes”. Ray then wanted to try it again and they played this sequence (the ending of ‘The Changeling’ > ‘SOYL’) either 2 or 3 times but none of those times did they play the ‘SOYL’ riff twice and Brett only sang the first part of the line.

*** Halfway through ‘Horse Latitudes’ Ray stopped the band and said they needed to make noises like the symphony did. Ray then sped-read the first half or so of ‘HL’ before the band started going wild as they finished.

**** At the beginning, Ray asked for thunder and for the lights to be turned down low. He then asked everyone imagine the dead-indians-on-the-highway story and went on to describe it before playing ‘ROTS’.

Printed setlist showed no ‘Blue Sunday’. It had ‘LA Woman’ (not played) listed after ‘Touch Me’. ‘ROTS’ was listed as the first encore while ‘The Crystal Ship’ (not played) ‘LMF’ and ‘Roadhouse Blues’ (not played) were listed as part of the second encore. As with the previous night, the band did not leave the stage and I don’t recall an obvious mention of an encore. I think it would also be accurate to call ‘ROTS’ and ‘LMF’ the encores though. Again, just preference.

Ray was in high spirits tonight. I love the jamminess of it all. Reprises galore! Even without counting the reprises - but including ‘Horse Latitudes’ and the Flamenco guitar solo as separate songs - this was a 20 song show! Obviously always wanting more and more and more songs, but I can’t honestly have any complaints after a show like this. Total show time was a little over 2 hours.
